Free Bassdrums (with love)

A guy looking at the camera like a serious person. In the background a cat is sitting on an armchair looking cute.

Hey! I did something I wanted to do for some time: Spend a day recreating Bassdrums from some of my favorite techno songs. It's not the ULTIMATE LIST of perfect Bassdrums. But I like them a lot. And as I put in the time and work to do it, why not share it with you?

My favorite Bassdrum-Plugin

...is calledΒ PUNCHBOX from a company named D16 group. It's very versatile and with this Bassdrum-recreation-thing I became really familiar with the ins and outs of this plugin. What I like most about it are the very solid "KICK" Modes. From classic 909 to wild samples. It's all in there! With "DISTORTION" and "LIMITER" you can get gritty and production-ready sounds very fast.

If you're interested in buying the plugin (I can 100% recommend), HERE'S THE LINK. This is not a sponsored ad. I just like the plugin!

From Reference to Bassdrum

As reference tracks I used the ten latest additions to my inspirational playlist. It's not a definite list, more like songs that have elements I like and maybe want to incorporate into my music. I think we can all agree on the fact: Bassdrums are the most important thing in techno. So I started with recreating them.

Here's a short video with some examples:

Yes, I want to see YouTube content on this website.

And now, the thing you've all been waiting for...

Hello, my name is mxmx. I'm a live act and music producer based in Berlin. Coming from a rock, pop background, techno gives me a new perspective on sound design, structure and flow. That's why I'm trying to find out what techno guitar is. Creating a musical space in which electric guitar blends in with atmospheric pads, synthesizers and driving bass drums is where I feel at home.

Aside from mxmx, I also work as a music teacher & songwriter. I'm happily married and love good filter coffee. If you think this sounds too nice, here's something I don't like: racing bikes and most people sitting on them.

I've been making a living as a musician since 2014. If you want to help me to continue doing so, you can support me on Ko-fi πŸ™Œ

Let's get in touch. Drop me a comment:
